No luck for Tommy Larkins in round 3 of the under 14 championship, which was played on Monday 9th May, against near neighbours Portumna. Despite a very strong opening half from Larkins which saw them lead by a point at the break; they struggled to cope with the more physical Portumna side in the second half and conceded easy frees that they were duly punished for. Credit to the Larkins lads who continued to take the game to Portumna and were very unlucky not to register a goal or two, but they will know that the frees tally against them was a big factor in the losing of this game. Portumna tacked on a goal at the end to run out winners on a scoreline of 0:04 - 1:08. Larkins will take positives from the game in that they succeeded in tightening up a defence that had conceeded easy goals in the previous 3 games; they now need to impose more discipline on that improving back play. The forwards didnt get the run of the ball in this game but if they keep creating the chances, they will put the scores on the board in future. Best for Larkins were Ciaran Kelly at corner back, John Larkin at centre back and goalkeeper Patrick Glynn, who made some great saves and was very solid throughout. Better luck next time out v Carnmore on Tuesday, 17th May.
